Sherwood Photographer Rachel Hadiashar supports arts organizations in Oregon. After attending a performance at the Chehalem Cultural Center in Newberg in 2021, and noting that the organization was amplifying black artists with its main stage, Rachel became doubly interested in supporting this organization.
Through partnership with CCC, Rachel came to discover the wonderfully chaotic environment of the abandoned looking school auditorium on the second floor. Soon to be a renewed performance venue in Newberg (pending construction), the piles of vintage debris and scraped up walls with dusty floors and old-school windows brought in the most wonderful light.
This is the environment in which we created these unretouched images – in a space artists often thrive, making something beautiful out of piles of raw material.
This year, in 2023, Rachel came in to photograph a handful of new staff and one rogue board member who had been relying on a decades-old artsy portrait that didn’t blend well with the other images on the page.
Enjoy the chaos of these on-location images at Chehalem Cultural Center in Newberg, Oregon. I intentionally selected images that were not all smiley from these extraordinary individuals.
